Portrait painting has a long tradition in the art world and is held by many to be the most demanding of all art disciplines. Because a successful portrait not only looks like the person, but must must also evoke the true essence of that person. In the following images you will see a small sampling of portraits that range from very traditional formal portraits to young and energetic children’s portraits. Each brings to life the people that were painted.

Begin by browsing past commissions below and then contact me to discuss the working process and scheduling considerations.
Pricing is based on the size of the painting and the number of people in the portrait. Portraits start at $4200.00 for a 16x20 single head. The process begins with a casual conversation to determine the clients needs; will the portrait be a formal or informal portrait, etc. This helps determine the personality of the painting and it's approach. Will the portrait hang in a public or private space? What size is appropriate, etc.?
Then a sitting is scheduled with the model. This usually takes about 1-2 hours total to allow for a few sketches and a photo session. I note here that the longer I have with the model the better, and more accurate, a representation of the model's likeness and personality will come through. Afterwards we will sit down together and look over the sketches, and photos to pick out which images best represent the sitter and purpose of portrait.
Afterwards a sketch is prepared for the client's approval. Comments or suggestions are always welcome as a way to make this the best portrait possible.
Once the sketch is approved I will begin the finish, which usually takes 1-2 months for completion. Sometimes, when time and travel allow, I will bring the sitter to the painting or the painting to the sitter for final color matching and details needed.
Once completed the painting can be delivered framed or unframed dependent on the desires of the client.
This is a collaborative process and comments, ideas, suggestions are always welcome throughout the process. I welcome your inquiries and questions so please feel free to contact me at your convenience.

Framing costs, as well as any travel costs are added to the price of the portrait. Much of these costs can be finalized before the process begins in order to keep the whole process amenable to everyone.
